What it means to be a man

Masculinity
According to Jocko Willink

Jocko Willink, author of one of my favorite books, “Extreme Ownership,” mentioned in his podcast recently about what he believes it means to be a man:

1) Procreate a child with a wife. Almost all men in the history of mankind have done this. Masculinity is about going outside of yourself and pouring your life into others. There’s no more basic way to do this than by giving up one’s life for one’s bride and her offspring, for life.

2) Fight in a battle where people are trying to kill you. So many guys are living – actually, just existing, They’re sleeping through the entertainment culture of video games and pornography and it’s put them at risk of being taken down by the Enemy – the one who wants them in hell.

3) Be able to fight and defend yourself. The fact that most American men aged 18-25 year olds can’t grip stronger than a 30 year old woman is a problem. There’s a lot of factors that go into why this is, but it is alarming. We’re physically weaker than before, and even more, spiritually weaker.

The good news: once we acknowledge the problem, we can do something about it.

What’s one blind spot that you know you have to correct? What’s one thing you’re going to do today to start addressing the issue? Comment below.
