Sexuality is one of the greatest powers known to man and woman. It can create new life. It can also destroy a heart.
Sexuality – being male or female – was designed by God to make visible his love into the physical world. In the most intimate acts of husband and wife, it is one of the deepest revelations of this mystery, where husband and wife are giving the gift of themselves to the other to be fully received in a profound way.
Masturbation, on the other hand, makes this solitary action into the pursuit of self-gratification. Because of the inversion of this gift, instead of experiencing the connectedness and union with another who total receives all of us for the rest of our life, there is an emptiness and ache that remains, growing into the vast wasteland of guilt and shame.
Today, take one step closer to making the gift of yourself by giving up masturbation and pornography. There’s joy waiting on the other side.
